Finally, Jake called Charlie again for some advice. This time, Charlie suggested that Jake just needed to use a shim to adjust the door frame slightly. Jake followed the suggestion, and after a few minor tweaks, the door finally shut properly.
The next task was the creaky staircase. Jake had read countless articles about how to fix squeaky stairs, and now he was ready to give it a try. Armed with a few screws, a hammer, and a wooden shim, Jake tried to fix the stairs. However, as he hammered away, one of the boards split, making the squeak even worse.
He groaned and pulled out his phone, about to call for help once more. But this time, instead of Charlie, he called his dad. “Dad, I’m in over my head. I broke the stairs.”
His dad, who had been a hands-on kind of guy throughout Jake’s childhood, chuckled on the other end of the phone. “Don’t worry, son. It happens to the best of us. You’re learning. Just take a deep breath and slow down. You’ll get there.”
